The Cheyenne community benefits in many ways from our military partners.  To celebrate the positive relationship between the Cheyenne community and all branches of the military – and to thank our military personnel for their dedication – the Military Affairs Committee annually sponsors displays and activities at Frontier Mall on Armed Forces Day. This year, the activities will take place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 17.

Armed Forces Day is a day set aside to recognize our national uniformed services. In our “Thank You for Serving,” Frontier Mall merchants will be offering special promotions for our local military personnel, and all military units – active duty, Guard and Reserve – will be hosting static displays and demonstrations that inform the public about their missions and equipment.  There will again be a “Hall of Honor” display, and a banner hung there that can be signed by visitors with their greetings, well-wishes and thanks to deployed troops; following this display, the banner will be sent overseas to show our support.  The more popular displays will again be present, including the Blackhawk and UH-1N helicopters, security forces demonstrations and missile support vehicles.

A formal opening ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., in front of the JC Penney store.  It will feature ceremonies often seen only on military installations, as well as recognition of all five uniformed services. Veterans organizations, military agencies, recruiters and related organizations will have display tables in place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The public, and especially Chamber membership, is encouraged to attend.
